The Vasquez Rocks Rangersassisted by The Local GroupAstronomy Club of the Santa Clarita ValleyProudly Present a Public Star PartySaturday June 23, 2007 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park 10700 Escondido Canyon Rd, Agua Dulce Friendly amateur astronomers are available to answer all those questions you’ve wanted to ask. 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM Telescopes with special filters will provide safe views of Earth’s nearest star – Sol. 8:09 PM: Sun officially sets. As the sky begins to darken, telescopes will begin showing the Moon, Saturn, Venus, and selected stars – some in color. 9:00 PM to 11:30 PM: With full darkness, telescopes display the wonders of the late "spring" and early “summer" skies: the Big and Little Dippers, the Scorpion and the Northern Crown, Hercules the Hero, the Serpent-Bearer, the Lion, & the Lyre, – plus (after 10pm) Jupiter! and (after 11:00pm) the Great Red Spot! “Deep-Sky” objects will include: the “Cosmic Cheerio;” clusters containing stars too numerous to count; the “luminous vacuum” left behind thousands of years ago by a supernova; and galaxies whose light has taken millions of years to reach us.
