UPDATE: The weather forecast is calling for clear skies but high winds possible. This presents a challenge as the wind can really shake the telescopes which makes it difficult to impossible to see anything. We may not be able to set up as many (or any) telescopes as usual.

However, WE WILL STILL BE HOSTING THE EVENT.

The telescope workshop will also still be held beforehand beginning at 3:00.

So come on out and join us for a night under the stars. We will still have a constellation talk and discuss some of the objects visible in the night sky. It's going to be in the 40s so make sure to dress warmly.

This is our FREE quarterly public star party at Vasquez Rocks Natural Area in Agua Dulce.

Sunset is around 5:20 that evening. Please arrive before sunset and park with your lights facing away from the telescopes.

Beginning at 3:00 we will be holding a special telescope workshop for those of you who either just received a telescope for Christmas or those who have that old scope in the closet. Bring it out and we'll help you get it set up and learn how to operate it. We'll give you pointers to make your observing sessions be more successful. Then when it gets dark, we'll help you locate objects to observe.

Vasquez is a beautiful park, bring a box-dinner and enjoy the evening. It will be cold so dress appropriately!

It's a new moon so will be nice and dark (no flashlights please!) which means we will be able to see lots of galaxies and nebulae. Orion will be the star of the show with lots of interesting objects in that part of the sky.

Enter the park via the main gate, turn left at the ranger station and continue to the end of the road past the large rocks.

Notes:

This is a County Park so please be mindful of the rules. aka, no alcohol. No smoking of any kind except in your vehicle. The park normally closes at sundown but during our Star Parties, we make special arrangements to have the gates open until the event concludes. Also, please stay at the event after dark. The rest of the park is not open to the public after dark and you will be asked to leave if you stray from the event area.
