The Fall College of the Canyons. Star Party taking place at the Canyon Country Campus will feature a talk by Dr. Athina Peidou. Dr. Peidou will talk about "Monitoring the Global Water Cycle with GRACE-FO Missions". GRACE stands for the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment which measured Earth's gravity field anomalies. The GRACE-FO is a flllow-on mission using near-identical hardware. By measuring these gravity anomalies, scientists can learn how mass is distributed across the planet and is an important tool for studying Earth's oceans, geology and climate.
The Star Party will begin at 6pm and of course The Local Group will be in attendance with our telescopes. So far, the weather looks good. We will have a crescent moon setting at around 8pm. Highlights will be Saturn and also the Andromeda Galaxy.
Sundown will be around 6:00 with the stars coming out around 7pm.
This event is FREE and open to the public.
