7:00 PM Presentation: "The Classification of Stars” presented by Van Webster
Astronomy is an observational science. Astronomers have used a range of methods for categorizing star observations. The goals of classifications are to understand the workings of stellar phenomenon and to help to predict the nature of newly discovered stars.
In our February meeting presentation entitled “The Classification of Stars”, Local Group member Van Webster will describe several methods of star classifications and more. Van will explain how and why astronomers have introduced, and enhanced classification processes in the history of astronomy, using increasingly sophisticated methods to categorize and identify the billions of stars in our night sky.
