Our club meeting this month will feature a talk from Dr. Joseph Masiero, a research scientist at IPAC/Caltech, and the Deputy Principal Investigator of the NEOWISE mission.

Title: Hunting for hazardous asteroids using infrared light

Near-Earth asteroids provide us the opportunity to better understand the formation and evolution of the Solar system, but also pose a hazard to the Earth should they be on an impacting trajectory. In this talk, he will discuss a survey to discover and
characterize hazardous asteroids using the NEOWISE infrared space telescope, and what we have learned about our Solar system. He will also present plans for the next-generation mission: NEO Surveyor.

We will start gathering at 6:30 with the presentation to begin around 7:00.

As always, these meetings are free and open to the public.
